‘Get Out and Drive’, a project I edited, explores the Irish Car community and attempts to offer audiences a new perspective on the community. More specifically, this documentary aims to address the overwhelmingly negative press surrounding the community which paints it as something filled with illegal car meets and underground street racers. The film offers a counterargument, stating that while these aspects do exist, there’s also more to this community than that. There are people in this community who help each other out by fixing up cars together, hosting events such as ‘Cars & Coffee’, and, above all else, have a great time doing so. Most of the people involved are also continually finding ways to set up safe and secure car events that defy the media’s negative representation of them.
