Broken Coolture

The inspiration for my graduate collection was taken from the angles and textures of derelict buildings and the colours and styles of street art found in Dublin and Hanoi.  Having lived in both cities, I was drawn to the asymmetrical structure of broken-down houses with exposed bricks, shattered windows and visible interiors and their old faded walls which have now been used as new canvasses for urban street art. My concept is about the beauty of asymmetry which we normally associate with elegant clothing but is something I wanted to incorporate into edgy streetwear for a cool, youthful customer. Everyday basics such as a great pair of denims, a puffa jacket and a crisp white shirt are given a new direction. The colour story consists of dark indigo blue and jet black, combined with a sharp white and shocking pink. Fabrics are comfortable sustainable denim, functional wool blends, natural cotton, and soft, organic corduroy. Eco-friendly hand bleached denim makes every garment unique like the street art it reflects and 3D topstitching inspired by scaffolding gives a unique texture to recycled cotton. Styles can be worn for work or play and update a contemporary, lifestyle wardrobe.
