The project The Classic is located on 17 Rathfarnham Road, Terenure, and it is a complete renovation and change of use of the former Classic cinema. The structure was originally built in 1938 with an Art Deco facade. The brief was to redesign the building into a community theatre, a café/bar/restaurant and flexible community/educational spaces, with the main goal to generate a creative and welcoming space for all people. As well as focusing on creating a contemporary space with a substantial inspiration of the Art Deco style to relate to the building’s history. My concept for this was Equilibrium, which means- a state of adjustment between opposing or divergent influences or elements. In my proposed design I have created open and smooth space, using curved edges, geometric patterns and a mixture of bright and dark lavish colours to get the feeling of walking into a building that is welcoming and different.
